“Packed With All The Essentials Goodness Soup”
Gentle on the stomach, yet so very tasty and packed with all the essentials goodness, “Lou Song Tong (ABC Soup)“ is probably every Chinese household all-time comfort soup/food. The Potatoes, Onions, Tomatoes and Carrots provides plentiful of pro-vitamin A, vitamin B and of course vitamin C. Now you have it, thus comes the name, “ABC Soup”..ha..ha (what an appropriate name, ya?). Btw, it is believed that this is an adaption of the Russian Borscht soup, a hearty beetroot vegetable soup originated from Ukraine or Eastern Russia. Apparently, “Luo Song”, is literally a translation of pronunciation of some Russian words (any idea) ? Frankly, a bowl of this soup with all the Veggies, this can be a hearty meal by itself. Here’s The Viand’s take on “Luo Song Tong (ABC Soup)” which is very different from most version.
- Potatoes, Tomatoes, Onion and Carrots and Meats/Bones.
- Salt and Sugar. Optional – a touch of Oyster sauce. All to taste. ** Note : Just dash of everything, if U prefer a stronger intensity of an ingredient flavor, simply add a little extra of that ingredient/spice – no rocket scientific measurement here. Always taste your Seasoning !!!
- Step 1 : Start by dicing all the Ingredients except for Tomatoes – cut to Triangular.
- Step 2 : Saute to sear the Meats/Bones till slightly brown. Add in all the Ingredients and saute till aromatic. Sauteing the Tomatoes gives you that thin layer of reddish oil; appetizing looks. A little trick to liven the rather boring, plain-looking version tat U mostly find outside.
Add Water, bring to boil. Turn the heat down to low and simmer for at least 2-3 hrs or till all veggies soften. The longer U boil, the veggies will break up and infused into the soup, making it slightly thicker (preference). Add Seasoning Ingredients. Viola.., your hearty bowl of “Lou Song Tong (ABC soup)” ready to be served hot.
