Healthy Healthy Soya Bean Milk

Soya Bean Milk which is made from soaking, grinding/blending and boiling soy beans with water, is a very nutritious drink. Soy is naturally high in essential fatty acids, proteins, fiber, vitamins and minerals. These nutrients provide energy and keep your body functioning at its optimum level. A traditional staple of Asian cuisine. Soy milk contains about the same proportion of protein as cow’s milk: around 3.5%; also 2% fat, 2.9% carbohydrate, and 5% ash. A good alternative to cow’s milk and contain a powerful array of Phytonutrients, known to help reduce blood cholesterol, thereby promoting cardiovascular wellness. Also good for those who are lactose intolerant. Soya Bean Milk can also be turned into tofu and tofu skin. Here’s The Viand’s take on Soya Bean Milk.



  • Soya Beans – 200 grams.
  • Rock Sugar or normal table sugar – to taste. Pandan leaves (screw-pines).


  • Step 1 : Start by soaking the Soybeans overnite. Remove the peels be kneading the beans and flushing the loose peels with water. Just get the peels off as much as possible.
  • Step 2 : Soya Beans to Water Ratio : 100 grams of Soya Beans to 1 liter of water. ** Add water and blend until smooth. Strain into a pot through a double layer of cheesecloth or some kind of cloth coffee strainer. Squeezed the bejesus out of it..ahaha. The insoluble material that left behind is called okara. U don’t need that !
  • Step 3 : Add Pandan leaves and Rock sugar. On medium heat bring it to boil. Keep a close look on it, when it comes to a boil, it tends to spill over (just like milk). Stir occasionally to avoid bottom sticking and burning. After a minute or so of boiling, turn the heat off and let it cool down a little. When it is cool enough to handle, sieve it again, just to get rid any impurities. Viola..! Your pot of healthy high protein “Soya Bean Milk” is ready. Btw, U can fridge it for abt a week.
