Simple Braised Homemade Egg Tofu

Delicious Simple Hearty Tofu Dish

First, a little intro – Tofu, also known as Bean curd, is made by coagulating soy milk and then pressing the resulting curds into soft white blocks – in much of the same way that traditional dairy cheese is made by curdling and solidifying milk. There are many varieties of tofu, including fresh tofu and tofu that has been processed in some way. Tofu is a good source of protein and has all eight essential amino acids. It is also an excellent source of iron and calcium and the minerals manganese, selenium and phosphorous, copper, zinc and vitamin B1. Tofu is an excellent food from a nutritional and health perspective. It is thought to provide the same sort of protection against cancer and heart disease as soya beans. Enough ?? LoL Anyway, here’s The Viand’s take on Simple Braised Homemade Egg Tofu.




  • Tofu, sliced to desired size (not too small).
    Side – Scallions & Parsley – cut to abt 2 inches long. Sliced red Chilli, Onion, red Carrot and Ginger.
    Cornstarch mixture as a thickening agent.


  • Salt, Sugar, white pepper, a touch of Oyster sauce, Sesame oil and a dash of Shaoxing wine. A dash of dark-soy just for coloring. All to taste. ** Note : Just dash/pinch of everything, if U prefer a stronger intensity of an ingredient flavor, simply add a little extra of that ingredient/spice – no rocket scientific measurement here. Always taste your Seasoning !!!



  • Step 1 : Start by heating up a pot of oil, smoking hot. Gently lower the Tofu, piece by piece and deep-fried the Tofu for abt 1-2 min. DO NOT overcrowd and over-fried, just till golden brown on the outside. Transfer out to drain off excess oil. Set aside.
  • Step 2 : Sauteing some chopped Garlic and sliced Ginger till aromatic. Add in the rest of the Side Ingredients except the Scallion, Parsley and sliced Chilli. Saute till Onion soften.  Add water, this will be the sauce. Bring to boil, add all the Seasoning Ingredients and Tofu. Bring to boil and add in the cornstarch mixture to ur preferred thickness consistency. Add the rest of the Side Ingredient.  and viola, ur plate of “Simple Braised Homemade Egg Tofu” is ready to be served hot.
