Essence of Chicken” needs no further introduction on its myriad nutritious health benefits to our body. Google and U’ll find them well-documented. But preparing the “essence” at home can be a little tedious and time-consuming – fortunately, there is a well-known product in the market ready to be consumed. “With over 180 years of history, BRAND’S® Essence of Chicken is the Original Essence of Chicken. It is made of an all-natural extract of fine quality chicken hygienically processed under high temperatures. Ook, this sounded like a marketing gig..😏.., let’s get cracking with the recipe.

Seriously, not much of a recipe..😄..becos, U simply pour the bottle of Essence of Chicken over the Chicken and steam for abt 30-60 mins with the option of a few more Herbal Ingredients. Here’s The Viand’s version of, Steamed Chicken with Brand’s Chicken Essence“. Btw, because this was specially prepared for someone who is recuperating from a major abdominal surgery, therefore the Chicken was steamed a little longer, for a softer meat texture.

Note : The strong unique taste/aroma of Brand’s Essence can be a little challenging and a turn-off to many. But if U prepare it like The VianD did – let it undergo the steaming process, everything becomes much milder. All of a sudden, the Essence become somewhat sweet and savory, giving U a perfectly flavored sauce.

IngredientS

MAIN :

  • Free-range Chicken – thoroughly clean and skinned (U can keep the skin intact for normal everyday consumption). The VianD has a relatively large Chicken, so only a Wing, a Thigh and a quarter of a Breast were used for two persons. Chopped to abt 2-inches in size or any size U fancy.
  • Herbals : Yuk Chuk (Solomon’s Seal), Kei Zi (Wolfberries) and Red Dates. Wash everything and soak for abt 10-15 mins with warm water, just to get rid of any impurities. A few sliced Ginger.
  • Ofcos, a bottle of the all important Brand’s Chicken Essence. U can add another if U prefer a stronger flavor.

SEASONING :

  • Just a pinch of Salt and a pinch of white Pepper to taste. The Essence of Chicken is flavorful enough. *** Note : Just dash of everything, if U prefer a stronger intensity of an ingredient flavor, simply add a little extra of that ingredient/spice/sauce – no rocket scientific measurement here. Always taste your Seasoning !!!

MethoD

  • Step 1 : Start by marinating the Chicken with all the Seasoning Ingredients for a couple of hrs. If U R preparing for everyday normal consumption, U can add a couple tablespoon of  Shaoxing wine if U so choose. With the Chicken at room temperature, place everything in a deepen-pot with cover, pour the Essence of Chicken all over. Steam for abt 30-60 mins (longer steaming time mean softer meat texture).  Viola, ur plate of simple delicious nourishing “Steamed Chicken with Brand’s Chicken Essence” is ready to be served hot.
