Simple Healthy Delicious Broccoli

Another quickie Veggie dish to add to the staple of an everyday meal. Healthy, clean natural sweetness Broccoli, stir-fried with limited Ingredients such as sliced Garlic and Ginger. To the Chinese, this kind of stir-fry flavoring is often referred to “plain fried” and is very popular because of its simplicity. Ofcos, there are plenty of more luxurious versions of this dish that include having Crabmeat sauce or even Abalone/Mushroom sauce. But these are mostly served at some kind of fancy Restaurants. As for now, The VianD will keep this economical and simple..😉.

Broccoli1For those who are not familiar with Broccoli (I seriously doubt that), Broccoli is of the cruciferous family of vegetables, the word “broccoli” means “branch” or “arm” for the cross-shaped Stems, like mini trees bearing the blossoms and is deep-green in color. Cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, and Kale are all crucifers. Broccoli is known to have a number of nutritional elements. Reportedly, it has twice the vitamin C of an Orange, almost as much calcium as Whole milk (with a better rate of absorption), and contains anti-cancer and antiviral properties with its selenium content. Good stuff, huh?? 😄 Anyway, here’s The VianD take on Simple Stir-Fried Broccoli.

IngredientS

MAIN :

  • A medium size Broccoli – wash and cut to bite-size.
  • Sliced, Ginger, Garlic, Red Carrot and some Fish Cake (U can basically add any Protein, U fancy or none – which will make the dish Vegan).

SEASONING :

  • Sugar, Salt, a touch of Oyster sauce and a dash of Shaoxing wine. All to taste. ** Note : Just dash/pinch of everything, if U prefer a stronger intensity of an ingredient flavor, simply add a little extra of that ingredient/spice – no rocket scientific measurement here. Always taste your Seasoning !!!
  • img_0054111A tiny bit of Cornstarch mixture, as a thickening agent. This is really optional but by adding a little of this mixture,  U’ll get a slightly richer sauce and more importantly that little bit of appetizing glossy look.

MethoD

  • Step 1 : Start by blanching the Broccoli/Red Carrot for a min or two in a Pot of boiling water seasoned with a pinch of Salt. This will help the Broccoli to cook evenly and preserved its bright greenish color.





    Dish out to drain excess water and set aside.







  • Step 2 On medium/low heat sautés the sliced Ginger and Garlic till aromatic.








    Add the sliced Fish cake, give it a few good stirs. Crank up the heat, add Broccoli, stir/toss and mix well. Add a tiny splash of water just to create some sauce. A few more good stirs (DO NOT overcook). Add the Cornstarch mixture bit by bit until desired consistency. Add all the Seasoning Ingredient.



    Viola, Ur plate of healthy “Simple Stir-Fried Broccoli” is ready to be served hot.


    ** Tip **Always add the Shaoxing wine just before plating. Swirl the Shaoxing wine in a thin stream around/along the side of the wok. This way, the heat will burn off the alcohol leaving behind a wonderful aromatic fragrance.
